SHAWNEE—Walking along the Twin Lakes in Shawnee, the last thing a person may expect to see on the shore is a miniature version of the White House.
However, that is exactly what you would find now, thanks to Ed Moore, pastor of Newalla, Pecan Valley. The impressive 18 feet-by-36-feet structure is built to look just like the White House in Washington, D.C.
Inside the White House replica building is one elongated room segmented into three areas: the Red room, Green room and Blue room.
The stated purpose of The Children’s White House is to point the next generation toward God’s providence in the history of the United States and teach them how to pray for America’s future. It acts as an extended ministry of Pecan Valley.
“I really feel like it was God who inspired me to build this,” said Moore. “It’s been in my heart for years to build The Children’s White House.”
Beyond being a prayer chapel, The Children’s White House also serves as a “command and training center to promote and coordinate prayer by and for the children of our nation.”
Actual construction on the center began two years ago with Moore’s grandson sketching a prototype of the building in a 3-D software. Through rigorous prayer and consultation with scripture, Moore believed God was calling him to begin this project.
“We felt like God gave us the ‘go-ahead’ through scripture,” said Moore. “We asked God for a sign, because you want to have confidence when you do something that you’re doing God’s will.”
At the time, Moore only had $3,000 for the project. Unsure how to begin, Moore felt God telling him to start with the footings. From there, God provided the necessary funds to construct the building and opened doors for Moore to acquire furniture.
One of the ways the “Children’s White House,” as it is known, was funded was through the ministry at Pecan Valley.
“I told our members I believed God was calling us to do this and challenged them to contribute a seed offering, the only money we ever asked for was from there,” said Moore.
That offering, Pecan Valley generated $10,000 to assist in the creation of The Children’s White House.
At the opening of The Children’s White House, Moore drafted “The Unanimous Declaration of Dependence Upon Almighty God” which is a compilation of various quotes from American Presidents that highlight America’s dependence on God.
“We’ve taken all these quotes and put them on the wall so we can walk around in here with groups of kids and show them what (the Presidents) have actually said,” said Moore. “When you read them together, you realize this is a God-based, Christian-based, spiritually based, religious-based nation.”
Moore wanted to focus on proclaiming the Gospel to children because they are going to be the next generation that runs the nation.
“A revival in the Bible is when the hearts of the fathers turn to their children and when the hearts of the children turn to their Father,” he said.
Ultimately, the purpose of The Children’s White House is to capture the imagination and the hearts of Americans in a house dedicated to God and the children. To have a real, physical place that can be used in a multitude of ways to better proclaim and advance the Gospel.
