SAN SABA, Texas — One month after destructive floods devastated the area, Oklahoma Baptists Disaster Relief (DR) teams have finished response in San Saba, Texas. Texas DR ministries have begun their rebuilding efforts, handling these needs with local, in state, teams.
The final Oklahoma team spent the first four days of their deployment in San Saba and then worked their last three days in Kerrville. The team’s time in Kerrville was very emotional as the flooding impact there caused loss of life. While there, the team visited a memorial dedicated to the flooding victims and took time to pray for all those impacted. Before leaving, Oklahoma DR left a signed yellow DR shirt on the memory wall.
While in Texas, Oklahoma DR helped complete over 200 jobs in San Saba and Kerrville, had dozens of spiritual and Gospel conversations, gave over 30 Bibles to homeowners and were a part of seven professions of faith, according to Jason Yarbrough, director of Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief.
“It can be said after every deployment, but those that were able to serve in Texas will never be the same,” he said.
Last month over the Fourth of July weekend, flash floods devastated areas of Texas, including Kerr County, Texas. Tragically, there have been over 130 confirmed fatalities, including children, because of the flooding.
Since July 10, Oklahoma Baptist DR volunteers have been responding to the devastating damage caused by the flood. Recovery and mud-out teams served in the San Saba community, bringing help, hope and healing to victims of the flooding.
“We say often that this is His ministry, and we get to be part of it,” said Yarbrough. “I am thankful to all those who listen to and obey the Lord’s direction.”
Even though response in Texas is wrapping up, Oklahoma DR is on standby to send teams to Ruidoso, N.M. to respond to flooding in that community. Oklahoma Baptist DR requests continued prayers for all those affected by the devastating floods and for the response teams as they seek to bring hope and help in this tragic situation.
