Later this year, Oklahoma Baptists will host a Church Safety Conference to help churches adopt best practices for safety and security.
The conference, which will take place in four regions of the state on four different dates, was created in response to numerous inquiries from pastors seeking guidance on church safety.
“The conference is designed to help churches develop safety teams and implement best practices for working with children and youth,” said Todd Fisher, Oklahoma Baptists executive director-treasurer.
The conference will address questions related to recruiting and training church safety teams, responding to weather emergencies, handling disruptions during worship services and training volunteers to work safely with children and youth.
The event is intended to help churches of all sizes. The facilitator will be Dan Ray, captain of emergency services with the Oklahoma State University Police Department. Ray has extensive experience in law enforcement, emergency response and safety training for schools and churches.
To accommodate as many people as possible, the conference will be held in four separate locations across the state:
Sept. 1—Piedmont, First
Sept. 8—Lawton, First
Oct. 12—McAlester, First
Oct. 19—Jenks, First
The Church Safety Conference will be identical at each location and will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no cost to attend, and lunch will be provided. Those who wish to attend must register at the link below and indicate which location and date they plan to attend.

“Pastor, please bring with you—or send to the conference—key leaders or volunteers in your church who serve in safety and/or children/youth ministry,” said Fisher. “As always, pastor, I greatly appreciate everything you do for the Kingdom of God!”
