LAKE CHARLES, La.—Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief (DR) volunteers continue to serve in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura. Currently, 120 DR volunteers are stationed in Lake Charles, La. and working through Lake Charles, La., Moss Bluff.
“Oklahoma Baptist DR volunteers are doing the job,” said Don Williams, Oklahoma state DR director. “They have stepped up to the challenge and are working hard.”
Williams reported 13 people made professions of faith in Christ, which resulted from DR volunteers sharing the Gospel through meeting the needs of offering meals, clearing tree limbs and land affected by the hurricane.
“We praise the Lord that we are able to serve Him and share Christ with those who need to hear the Gospel,” Williams said.
DR volunteers continue to serve 5,000 meals a day (2,500 lunches and 2,500 dinners). Williams said 140 Southern Baptist churches in Louisiana were damaged, and 12 were totally damaged.
Oklahoma is among 15 states working in DR ministry across Louisiana and other affected regions. Williams reported Oklahoma City, Putnam City is sending a crew to serve. “We welcome every church that wants to come,” he said. “It will take a lot of hands to help people recover.”
