Joe Ligon serves as senior associate executive director for Oklahoma Baptists. He functions as Oklahoma Baptists’ chief of staff, establishing a service culture within the organization, setting the agenda for leadership staff and facilitating executive staff meetings.

He also supervises associate executive directors, the chief financial officer and Baptist Collegiate Ministry directors, among others. He helps to lead the organization in development and fundraising efforts and spends time cultivating relationships between Oklahoma Baptists and churches.

“I serve as chief of staff for the state organization,” Ligon said. “I provide oversight for the day-to-day operations of our state organization, oversee our support services group, provide guidance for our conference centers, and whatever else needs to be done and whatever I am asked to do.”

Joe’s ministry takes him on the road for several hours each week, visiting pastors and associational mission strategists (directors of missions). This is sometimes stressful, but Joe knows how to deal with it.

“When you experience stress, you do your best to stay close to God and the Word, your believing wife, your children and your friends in the Lord,” he said. “There’s something beautiful and encouraging about going through even the most difficult times with Christ-followers. Iron sharpens iron.”

Joe and his wife, Gayla, have two grown sons, Andrew and Aaron, and twin granddaughters.

Pray for Joe as he wears many hats and travels many miles. Pray Oklahoma Baptists will be unified as they encourage one another in the advancement of the Gospel. Pray Joe’s family would remain anchored to the Lord and to His Church.

Because of the generous giving of Oklahoma Baptists through the Cooperative Program, an amazing array of ministries are supported. This unified giving encourages fellowship with other believers all over the world. Collectively, Oklahoma Baptists are advancing the gospel together.
