Longtime Oklahoma Baptists’ women’s ministry assistant Shelley Urton was honored with a reception at the WatersEdge Building on Dec. 1 as she retired after serving the Convention for 15 years.
“We celebrated Shelley upon her retirement from working for Oklahoma Baptists the last 15 years,” Todd Fisher, executive director/treasurer, said during the event. “She is the epitome of what I hope for all of our team members—to see what they do for the convention as a ministry and not just a job.
“She has tirelessly and faithfully served Oklahoma Baptist churches in so many ways, especially in the area of women’s ministry. We will miss her greatly, but wish her all the best in the next stage of life as she focuses on family and grandchildren. Thank you, Shelley, for your years of service to the Lord and His church!”
A stay-at-home mom for 20 years, Urton raised four children and operated a successful home-based Creative Memories business before she was invited to join the State Women’s Leadership team as a volunteer. Volunteering turned into a part-time job in 2010, transitioning later to full-time.
“The joy of working shoulder to shoulder with co-workers, volunteers, and people across our state has been more than I could have ever imagined,” Urton said. “Even though I have been stretched out of my comfort zone time and time again, I am thankful.”
In addition to the women’s office, Urton worked with Small in attendance or MVP Multi-Vocational churches, Native American and African American churches, and missionaries.
