This week, it was announced to the Oklahoma Baptists Board of Directors that Todd Sanders will be moving into the role of Discipleship Ministry Partner for Oklahoma Baptists. Sanders, who has served Oklahoma Baptists since 2009 as a part of the youth ministry staff and has served as Falls Creek Program Director and Youth Ministry Partner since 2019, will make the transition into this new role on the Oklahoma Baptists staff this fall.
Bertholomew “Prophet” Bailey, who recently moved to the role of African American Ministry Partner on the Oklahoma Baptists’ staff, had recently led in the area of Young Adult Discipleship. Sanders’ ministry focus will encompass all age-stages of discipleship in church life, as Oklahoma Baptists seek to serve and support pastors and churches to advance the Gospel together.
Oklahoma Baptists’ Executive Director-Treasurer Todd Fisher expressed enthusiasm for Sanders taking on this focused ministry role, and gratitude for his longstanding efforts and impact in youth ministry and at Falls Creek.
“Todd Sanders has been and will continue to be such an impactful and faithful leader for Oklahoma Baptists. His heart for the lost, his commitment to evangelism and discipleship, his experience and education—all of these will be used by the Lord to advance the Gospel in this key area of discipleship,” Fisher said.
Reflecting on his ministry journey, Sanders emphasized God’s call.
“God’s call in our lives is dynamic. We always remain open to new directions, challenges, and assignments. I am looking forward to taking on a new assignment and its new challenges,” Sanders said.
“Since I became connected to the local church late in elementary school, trusted Christ as a teenager, and began my discipleship journey, I have had great examples, meaningful mentors and excellent educators who have fostered a passion for both personal and congregational discipleship in me. My educational and professional experience have only stoked this passion. My wife Angela and I are confident that this is what the Lord has for us at this time. We are very excited about it,” Sanders added.
Sanders holds a Master of Arts Degree in Christian Education from Southwestern Seminary, a Doctor of Ministry degree from New Orleans Seminary in Strategic Leadership and Christian Education. He is a Ph.D. resident through New Orleans Seminary in Christian Leadership and Christian Education.
“I am excited to work with Oklahoma Baptist churches to build healthy frameworks and develop discipleship pathways that strengthen existing relationships, increase multigenerational cooperation, and foster genuine community in the church as a whole,” he said. “I’m also looking forward to encouraging and equipping all my brothers and sisters in Christ to grow in Christ-likeness, advance the Gospel, and foster the kind of unity that makes the world want what we have. With the Lord’s help and by His power, I believe I can help in these ways.”
He and his wife Angela, who is a published author and women’s ministry leader, have three grown children and two grandchildren. Sanders will continue to assist in Falls Creek programming, as a new individual for Falls Creek Program Director and Youth Ministry Partner is named and subsequently settles into the role.
