Oklahoma Baptist University will host the annual Herschel H. and Frances J. Hobbs Lecture on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025. Dr. Fred Sanders will deliver the lecture during chapel at 10 a.m. in the Recreation and Wellness Center. The event is free and open to the public, with no registration required.

The Hobbs Lectureship was OBU’s first endowed lectureship, established in 1980 by friends of the late Dr. Herschel H. Hobbs, longtime pastor of First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, and his wife, Frances J. Hobbs, in recognition of their legacy of faithful Christian service.

The lectureship annually brings notable speakers to campus who explore aspects of Baptist faith and heritage, encouraging a deeper understanding of Baptist theology, history and scriptural studies. It is one of four endowed lectureships at OBU designed to enrich students’ academic and spiritual formation.

Sanders is a theologian who studies and teaches across the full range of Christian doctrines, with a special focus on the doctrine of the Trinity. Since 1999, he has taught in the Torrey Honors College, an undergraduate program in the great books, at Biola University.

He studied art in college, earned a Master of Divinity at Asbury Theological Seminary, and a PhD from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. His books include The Deep Things of God: How the Trinity Changes Everything (Crossway, 2010); The Triune God (Zondervan, 2016); and Fountain of Salvation: Trinity and Soteriology (Eerdmans, 2021).
