DAVIS—Each week, Falls Creek Youth Camp offers campers the opportunity to hear the Gospel, to participate in fun activities and to be built up in their faith.

For students who want to be further built up in their faith, Falls Creek offers breakout sessions on various topics. Every Thursday at 2 p.m. in Massey Chapel, leaders with Hope Pregnancy Ministries present an impactful breakout session called “Culture Changers.”

Leanne Martin, Director of Hope Pregnancy Center in Ardmore, and Charity Lyon, Director of Hope’s Northwest Ministries in Alva, each recently led the breakout session, which was attended by more than 160 students and sponsors.

Martin and Lyon walked students step-by-step through the biblical value of the sanctity of life and how the culture promotes abortion. The curriculum, called “Culture Changers” is a “specific resource and training campaign by the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children (OBHC) designed to equip individuals, churches and leaders to become sources of hope and support within their communities.”

Martin and Lyon alerted students to understand the dangers of the abortion pill, and about abortion pill reversal, which saves lives. They highlighted several pro-life testimonies, and taught students defend the sanctity of human life with compassion and conviction.

The “Culture Changers” initiative equips students to “know the truth and speak the truth” in their local contexts.

This breakout session topic has, in various forms, now been offered for several years and has a large impact. One student attendee remarked that they had been an abortion supporter prior to the breakout session and now were firming convinced of being life-affirming.

One church sponsor said she felt motivated to do more for the unborn and abortion-vulnerable mothers in her community and plans to volunteer with Hope.

At oklahomabaptists.org/life, churches can view the teaching materials from last summer’s breakout session, which are presented as three, 20-minute videos that a church or youth group can show students.
