The Faith: What It Is and Is Not
Guests: Chuck Colson and Timothy George
Evangelicals are Christians closely associated with the Christian evangel – or the gospel. Of late, the very word “gospel” has become somewhat vogue in various discussions by such diverse groups as the Emergent Village, the National Association of Evangelicals, and the Gospel Coalition. What is meant by the term gospel, however, seems to be unclear. For some, it is an activist word void of doctrinal moorings which only cause divisions among Christians. Others understand the gospel as a series of propositions gleaned from the pages of the Bible and presented as truth to the world. What is the gospel and what is the faith of Christians as found in the Bible?
For a nation such as the United States with such monetary wealth and resources there seems to be a dearth of Christian doctrine – what Jude termed in Holy Scripture as “the faith once for all delivered to the saints.”
Guests for this podcast:
Chuck Colson – a name synonymous with evangelicals for over thirty years is the founder of Prison Fellowship and other evangelical organizations such as Justice Fellowship and the Wilberforce Forum. He has worked to advance the gospel and the local church in ways which call the church toward a sound doctrinal footing and an outreach that seeks to impact the culture in ways which adorn the gospel with deeds done in the name of Christ.
Timothy George – another name familiar to evangelicals serves as the founding dean of Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, AL and Senior Editor of Christianity Today. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Prison Fellowship occupying a place where the late Carl F.H. Henry served with distinction for many years. He is the author of numerous books and is perhaps most widely known for what has become a modern Christian classic – The Theology of the Reformers.[audio:http://messengerinsight.com/wp-content/uploads/Podcasts/MI9.19.09ChuckColsoTimothyGeorge.mp3]
