I am amazed that Southern Baptist would even give thought to a debate or discussion on the public invitation. We need to give them in a correct way. Not by asking the congregation at the end of the service “Who wants to go to heaven ?” raise your hands. Then call the church clerk to sign them up. Not by using “sad shep stories” to get them emotionally stirred and then telling them about someone who didn’t “go up” but was killed on the way home from church. It’s simple, just sing or play a couple of verses and give the people time to respond to the Word that has just been shared with them. We don’t need to throw the baby out with the bath water.
