Falls Creek hosts 3 new fall retreats

New events are happening this fall at Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center, near Davis. Three retreats are scheduled in September and October that would appeal to families, married couples and senior adults.

All three events have been planned under the direction of Keith Burkhart, men’s and family ministry specialist for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.

The Family Vision Retreat is scheduled Sept. 30-Oct. 1 with family-fun activities involving the entire family. Burkhart said the idea to have this unique retreat originated from Greg Gunn, founder of Family-iD Ministries, who helps families uncover core values, write down their vision and mission statement and begin to implement their family goals.

“It is designed to be a multi-generational retreat, a camp for families,” Burkhart said. “But we want more than just the parents and children. We want grandparents and have a multi-generational experience where they come together. It should be great fun, but we hope families walk away with a vision written down for the family.”

Recording artist Jami Smith will lead worship in music during the main sessions of the Family Vision Retreat. Registration is open through Sept. 21. Cost for a family of four to register in the new Thompson Family Lodge is  $190, which includes meals, lodging and activities. Visit bgco.org/family for more information and to register.

The Recharge Marriage Retreat will be at Falls Creek, Oct. 14-15. Pastor Rick Sowell and his wife, Stephanie, from Choctaw, Choctaw Road and Pastor Walter Mullican and his wife, Kathy, from Oklahoma City, Portland Avenue will be the weekend leaders. Cody and Dara Evans from Purcell, First will be leading worship in music at the retreat.

“We are going to do everything we can to spoil these couples,” said Burkhart about those who attend the Recharge Marriage Retreat. “We’re going to have chocolates on their beds when they arrive. There will be activities they can do together. We will do some extra things that will help them. They will get to fill out a Couple Assessment, and will get a report on their couple dynamic. Then we will have a group report that will help us tailor the conference. Even though we have a particular direction we are going, we will know if we need to emphasize finances or communication or conflict resolution.”

Registration for the Recharge Marriage Retreat runs through Oct. 5, and cost is $90. Visit bgco.org/family for more information and to register.

The Legacy Senior Adult Fall Retreat will be at Falls Creek, Oct. 24-25. Burkhart said they are planning a “Branson-style experience at Falls Creek.”

Special musical guests include bass vocalist Keron Jackson, harpist Greg Buchanan, and the Goldenaires Choir from Richardson, Texas. Ruffin Snow, associate pastor at Oklahoma City, Southern Hills will be a special speaker, and the two-day retreat will feature many enjoyable activities.

Though hotel lodging at Falls Creek is full for this retreat, Burkhart said other lodging options are available. Registration is open through Oct. 16. Visit bgco.org/family for more information and to register.
