I am chaplain of our local funeral home and when I get them they are not in a local church. To my surprise, many will claim a Baptist afiliation. When they do I make it a point to ask what that really means. Much too often I find that they have been really active in church in times past and for various reasons they have lost contact with the church they belong to, maybe even that church has neglected it's responsibility in maintaining that contact. Having been a ten year backslider I still treasure the dilligence of the Church where I belonged in their presistence in maintaining that contact. I heard a preacher at one of our conferences say that he did not have time to waste on people who knew they should be in Church. I assured him that I was glad he wasnt pastor of the one that coaxed me back into the fold. One of our best witnesses is how we care for each other. Those on the outside are more moved by that than just a verbal witness.
