I know by experience what it can do to you. I drive by one every day going to work. I've lost thousands of dollars to it. I am trying my best to stay out. I become a different person as soon as I walk in the door. I lose all track of time and usually lose everything I have on me. Then I go cash a check and lose that too. I could use your prayers. It's been 2 weeks since I have been there and I'm really trying to stay out. It is an addiction and is very hard to fight alone.

I couldn't agree with you more. The message in your article should reach everyone in the state of Okla., not just baptists. However, our media are not likely to allow this since they only publicize the few winners. Our Governor, along with the tribes, have taken over our state and made it a gambling mecca that would put Las Vegas to shame and we let it happen. I recently had a speaker at our Kiwanis meeting that shared with us about their organization that deals with gambling woes and they too are unable to get the state to help them promote this method of dealing with people that are addicted. I was able to get the following article in the Oklahoman dated 1-13-08. Quote, "It's exciting to hear that Okla. has decided to issue a new design for our auto tags. I'd vote for the scissor-tail flycatcher since it will appear on the Okla. quarter. Several suggestions were offered already and Will Rogers would work also, but the "Guardian" statue now installed on top of our capitol dome would be better suited on top of a casino or tribal tag, not on a tag that taxpayers carry the load for in keeping our roads and bridges repaired. I have respect for the tribes, but I resent the fact that they have turned our state into a gambling mecca." Unquote.
Please try to get your message out to the public. God bless.

In your article you state that based on solid biblical principles, we should adamantly stand opposed to any further expansion of gambling. Could you please quote the scriptures that state this about gambling? I believe gambling is a concern but I am not sure that it is the sin that everyone says it is. My pastor sermonizes on the sin of gambling but never tells where in the Bible it says this. 90 percent of our congregation is obesely overweight (including our pastor). In Proverbs 23:20-21 it says - "Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons BECOME POOR and drowsiness clothes them in rags." This is also a concern for our families, churches and communities. Let's spread the word on this more since it affects so many more people!
